S. Korean Kim Sei-young captures 1st career LPGA major title

  (AP-Yonhap) With a ruthlessly dominant performance, South Korean LPGA star Kim Sei-young has finally broken through with her maiden major title. Kim captured the KPMG Kèo hay PGA Championship by five strokes Sunday (local time) at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, for her 11th career title and first at one of LPGA's five major tournaments. Kim, world No. 7, carded a bogey-free round of seven-under 63 in the final round at the par-70, 6,577-yard track, for a four-round total of 14-under 266. Kim took home $645,000 for her effort. Fellow South Korean Park In-bee finished a distant second at nine-under 271. Park had her own bogey-less round of 65 but was no match against Kim on this day. Under eased social distancing rules, baseball league to reopen stadiums on Tuesday

  (Yonhap) With social distancing rules during the coronavirus pandemic eased across the nation, the top baseball league here will reopen stadium gates on Tuesday. The Korea Bóng 88 Baseball Organization (KBO) made the announcement on Sunday, hours after the government decided to lower the level of social distancing restrictions from Level 2 to Level 1, the lowest in the three-tier system. The government said teams could admit crowds of up to 30 percent of their stadium capacity. But to maintain sufficient distancing between fans and ensure safe viewing environments, KBO teams will keep their cap on about 20 percent. During a small window in early August, before the social distancing scheme was raised to Level 2, KBO teams had also admitted fans at about 20 percent capacity of their ballparks. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) clubs will play their final two three-game sets this week, with makeup games of rained-out affairs to follow from Oct. 20 to 30. They received some welcoming bit of news Sunday, as the government eased social distancing restrictions to allow sports teams to start playing in front of fans again during the coronavirus pandemic. KBO clubs enjoyed a brief stretch, from late July to mid-August, when fans were admitted to games, albeit in limited capacity. Before the government implemented tight social distancing regulations and forced sports stadiums to be shut, KBO teams had crowds of about 25 percent of their stadium capacity.   (Korea Professional Football League) Incheon Kèo hay United striker Stefan Mugosa has been voted the top player in South Korean club football for September. The Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced Monday that Mugosa topped three other candidates for the Player of the Month honor for September. Mugosa is the first Incheon United player to earn this monthly award. Mugosa scored six goals -- coming in two separate hat tricks -- and assisted on one other goal. He was involved in seven of 10 goals that Incheon scored in September. With Mugosa leading the attack, Incheon collected 10 points last month, trailing only Pohang Steelers' 13 points for the month. Pro football league to reopen stadium gates Friday

  (Yonhap) The South Bóng 88 pro football league will reopen the gates to its stadiums later this week, following the recent easing of social distancing restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic, the Korea Professional Football League announced Monday. According to the K League, starting with the K League 1 match between Gangwon FC and Incheon United on Friday, supporters will be readmitted to stadiums. The government announced Sunday it would soften social distancing rules and allow pro sports leagues to bring fans back to stadium seats. Gangwon will host the match at Gangneung Stadium in Gangneung, 230 kilometers east of Seoul, at 7 p.m. Friday. There are two more matches Saturday and three Sunday. The K League 1 season was cut from 38 matches to 27 matches, as its start was pushed back by over two months due to the virus outbreak. It will finish Nov. 1.
